600 children from local Primary and Junior Schools attended the two-day Science & Technology Fair held recently at Marwell Zoo, which was sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Staff from NPower taught the children about electricity and fossil fuels, and gave them the chance to generate their own static electricity using balloons and Rice Krispies.

Southampton University were there to teach the children about their bodies, and gave them the opportunity to listen to each other's heart beats using stethoscopes.
Dr David Ndzi ran an activity to teach about mechanical science through building and programming robots.
Steve Dorney from the Institute of Sound & Vibration showed how sounds and vibrations were created using friction and the pupils were able to use different instruments and water to discover these for themselves.
We are very grateful to Margaret Clayton, who brought her Magical Chemistry Show, and enthralled everyone with her demonstrations using liquid nitrogen and turning liquids into solids. We all learnt about melting and freezing points, gases, solids, and atoms, and the children left with a passion to learn more about the science that surrounds us all.

Our thanks to all the exhibitors who gave their time to provide activities and encourage Primary and Junior School children to look at the practical applications of science and technology:
