Role models have been discovered in abundance at several local employers.
Many employers are volunteering to act as mentors to young people within Southampton secondary schools, providing one to one support for 14 -16 year olds. The young people are receiving support from these independent mentors with whom they can discuss academic and personal matters. At the same time the employees are also able to put the experience towards their own personal development.
This is one of a number of schemes that persuaded the national Mentoring and Befriending Foundation to renew Solent Skill Quest's Approved Provider Standard accreditation for three years. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone within the business community who feels able to support local young people as a role model.
