Over 200 workers from all over the world, speaking 40 languages as diverse as Asante, Hungarian, Khymer, Mandarin, Talagog and Zulu, have been supported by Solent Skill Quest to improve their English language skills. The project was funded through the European Social Fund and the Learning & Skills Council, and was aimed at supporting learners from the Care and Hospitality industries across Southampton and Portsmouth travel to work area.
Along with our partners ESSU, HEMAS, Nextstep, The Bridge Consultancy, Southampton City College, Barton Peveril College, St Vincent College, Portsmouth College, Highbury College, and Havant College, we supported 40 businesses and succeeded in funding training for over 200 learners. The courses were contextualised to the learners' job, which ultimately improved retention and understanding. Learners were provided with a range of support from careers advice to pastoral care.
